May 2008 - Correction re: Decker Lake Mill news item
Apologies from AMS for false information in the March advisory - it seems there was no formal press release regarding the Decker Lake Mill. At our Mar 13 meeting Board meeting, one of our Directors mentioned seeing something in the Burns Lake paper regarding the Decker burner. A Decker Lake employee and AMS Director has confirmed that an employee newsletter went out announcing, among other things, the whitewood residue extraction system construction projects at Decker Lake Forest Products (DLFP) and BFP and the ‘semi’ closure of the DLFP burner. It is anticipated the burner will be used 1-2 days per month to burn log yard debris, as they currently do not have an alternate disposal means.Further details have been requested for the 2008 version of the Clean Air Plan and the AGM.
Beehive burner status update: There are three remaining burners in the BVLD airshed, all of which are classified as Tier 2 (ie. more than 5 km from a populated area of 500 or more people). For a history of regulations and citizen action regarding this source of particulate matter, visit http://wlapwww.gov.bc.ca/ske/epd/air/particulates/case_study.html/.

April 2006 - CANFOR shuts down beehive burner
CANFOR Houston officially closed down their beehive burner on April 5, 2007. Wood residue formerly burned is now being used to produce pellets for overseas markets and to fuel a green energy system. A crane is now stationed beside the burner in preparation for deconstruction. All scrap metal will be recycled.
With the closure of the CANFOR burner, and the Pacific Inland Resources beehive burner in July 2005, four operating beehive burners remain in the BVLD Airshed. The Houston Forest Products burner is still scheduled to close by December 31, 2007 as per our July 27, 2006 notice.
