AMS Out and About

Last update: May 15, 2008

Education is our primary activity.
Since 2002, we've been giving presentations and working with local groups in every community in the BVLD area and beyond (our Woodstove Exchange Program covers the Skeena region, and we get to Terrace quite often). We have a volunteer program available for all skill levels and are also able to provide training. In 2008 we even have a summer student to lead our idling reduction campaign. Take a look through our photo gallery and do call us if you want to get involved! Thanks to all the volunteers who gave us a few hours of their time - we couldn't do it without you. P.S. We are happy to offer programs in any community where there is a local partner to plan and play with.

Houston Trade Show September 8-9, 2006

Our booth took honourable mentions for Best Information Booth (we were beat out by the RCMP's rolling vehicle that tossed dummies out the window for not wearing their seatbelts!)

Bulkley Valley Fall Fair (Smithers) August 24-27, 2006

We didn't enter the booth competition, but we did get lots of people dropping in to say hello. This was the debut of our new and old woodstove demonstration.

Clean Air Day, Smithers June 7, 2006

This was our first National Clean Air Day and we teamed up with One Sky to offer a program in Smithers. We introduced our "How Good is Your Wood?" display here, and tested your wits against our moisture meter. New bylaws specify that only seasoned wood can be burned, and seasoned means a moisture content of 20% or less (between 12 and 20 is ideal). Moisture meters will be available to borrow in community libraries soon.

Top left: Our new demonstration trailer, on loan for the duration of our 4 year woodstove campaign from WETTBC. The black stove is a QuadraFire (circa 2002) showing advanced technology and emits an average of 1.2 grams/hour while heating up to 2200 square feet. The other stove is an RSF (circa 1992) and heats the same space while emitting 40 grams/hour.
